Inauguration of academic year 2017/2018 and introduction of new EWST students

On Saturday, October 14th, the inauguration of the academic year was held at the Evangelical School of Theology, combined with the introduction and welcome of new students. Inaugural lecture was delivered by Dr. Jacek Ossowski, Chairman of the Wroclaw City Council.

During the inauguration, we welcomed representatives of the Board of EWST, the Polish Parliament, provincial, municipal and local authorities, churches, institutions and non-governmental organizations.

Also, numerous students and graduates of EWST, students of the Intercultural Academy of the Third Age, and friends of our university came in. The audience was greeted by the Rector of the EWST, Dr. Wojciech Szczerba. There were also participants from the School of Worship.

The inaugural lecture of Dr. Jacek Ossowski, Chairman of the City Council was entitled “My Wrocław” and led guests through the postwar history of the capital of Lower Silesia, told from the perspective of a man who was born and raised in Wroclaw. Extremely touching memories were interwoven with the recollections of the people of our city owing to its unique climate of openness, diversity and hospitality.

During the ceremony, gratitude was expressed and the rector’s award was given to our graduate, Klaudia Buss, for her dedication to various efforts for the school and the student community.

Music included two important songs for our school: the hymn “Our Castle is Our God” by Martin Luther, and the song by Dietrich Bonhoeffer, “Through Your Goodness, Lord Surrounded.” Both refer to this year’s 500th anniversary of the Reformation.

Bishop Ryszard Bogusz from the Evangelical-Augsburg Church (Lutheran) gave a blessing at the end of the inauguration ceremony. The official part ended with traditional group photos, but the celebrations continued during a time of refreshments and fellowship.

We invite you to take a look at photos from the inauguration.
