Live from Poland by Gabriel Calderon, EST student. March 16th, 2022

Since the war in Ukraine broke out, It’s really amazing to see how it has changed not only Wroclaw but the entire Polish nation.

Wherever you go in the city you can see Ukrainian flags flying high everywhere as a true testament to the sense of unity that Wroclawians, as well as Poles everywhere, have with the country of Ukraine.

Prior to the current ongoing conflict, Wroclaw was already home to over 100,000 Ukrainians and they established a reputation for being a hard-working class of people which Integrated easily and very quickly became productive members of society. Now Poles and Ukrainians work side by side every day in the Information centers near the city center as well as at the central train and bus stations providing humanitarian aid of all kinds.

Wroclaw has transformed itself into a safe haven for refugees to come and feel protected, cared for, and respected. Churches, organizations and residents are not only opening up their homes and buildings to take in refugees but also giving out food, water, clothes and many other items needed in order to make life just a bit easier for those arriving from war-torn Ukraine.

The heart and soul of our city are painted in blue and yellow as we stand shoulder to shoulder in solidarity with our Ukrainian brothers and sisters.

Slava Ukrayini! (Glory to Ukraine!)
