VII Days of the Reformation at EST – About the Bible and Singing the Word

The Evangelical School of Theology has for several years taken part in the Days of Reformation celebrations in Wroclaw. This year was the VII Days of Reformation that included a gospel concert, combined with reflections on one of the slogans of the Protestant Reformation, “Sola Scriptura.”

Once again we had the honor and pleasure to host a choir led by Mrs. Barbara Szarejko. The band Cantus Olaviensis presented some beautiful and energetic gospel songs, and the conductor shared with the audience details of the challenges faced by all those who want to sing this type of music. She recalled the history and cultural aspects of the mainstream of the music, indicating the differences between the gospel and music derived from Central Europe. She emphasized that the gospel songs sung in Poland and by the Poles take on a different tone and character.

Another important part of the evening were presentations devoted to the authority of the Bible, expressed by the slogan “Sola Scriptura.” Lecturers from EST were Dr. David Slusarczyk and Dr. Sebastian Smolarz, and the meeting was chaired by EST professor Dr. Piotr Lorek. The talks were a perfect introduction to the events that took place on 31 October 2016 in Lund, Sweden, where a solemn ecumenical service began the official celebrations of the Jubilee Year of the 500th anniversary of the Reformation. The service in Sweden was attended by Pope Francis with words of forgiveness and reconciliation.

We thank all participants of the meeting.
