Jonathan Edwards (1703 – 1758) as pastor, preacher, Christian philosopher, missionary, and president of Princeton University (USA) is widely regarded as one of the greatest American thinkers. His influence on American Protestantism and more broadly on western theological thought (philosophical and social) in the eighteenth century and following centuries cannot be overestimated. The achievements of Jonathan Edwards are the subject of in-depth research that recognizes its historical significance and the huge influence on the religious, political and intellectual horizons of the New World. The view of Edwards that emerges from these studies is beyond its traditional image as a radical preacher. Increasingly visible today is the universal dimension of Edwards’s message and insight with which he approached the phenomenon of religious experience.

Selected Writings is a Polish translation of an anthology of texts written by Edwards and representative of his diverse works. These presented texts give the Polish reader a multifaceted view of Edwards, especially that this selection of his writings is previously unprecedented on Polish soil.
